Part 2: A nice anecdote to the original story in Part 1 below:
On our 2nd food packing work; we decided to go for lunch after having loaded the food boxes into the truck. This was to get our sugar levels up for the eventual unloading of the food boxes. As we seated in Lily’s Restaurant in Welland, the hostess chatted with us. When we finished lunch, a member showed the hostess the truck filled with food boxes. When they came back in, the hostess came to the table and grabbed her bills. She said she wanted to contribute a little to the community in her own generous way. (To help the Rotarians that help the community.) Although Rotarians do “Service Above Self” without expecting anything in return; it’s nice to be appreciated and we thank Lily’s Restaurant.
Thanks also goes to the helpers from the Native Center in Fort Erie; for helping us unload the food boxes. We hope we can develop friendships with the helpers and perhaps work on projects together in the future. Maybe even get some new members to RFE.
Part 1: Volunteers for Food…packing needed, loading and unloading help needed.
Our Club just can’t say no. The Rotary Club of Fort Erie has been donating to and/or helping other
charities when it comes to food. Donations have been made to Meals on Wheels for many years and
and even one member and his spouse has been consistently helping them deliver meals.
Members have been helping “ring the bell” for the Salvation Army Kettles Fundraiser.
The club has just started helping ‘Links for Greener Learning’. This charity promotes environmentally
friendly and sustainable programs such as community gardens and food boxes.
RFE is now involved in packing over 170 food boxes in Welland and then shipping them into Fort Erie.

In the meanwhile; there are some photos of the Good Food Box packing in our Photo Albums section:
